The table as tableau
Objects with Stories
Many of the objects used in Tableaux & Co. tables are vintage pieces chosen not only for their beauty, but for the character they bring to the table.Whenever possible, Tableaux tables incorporate heirloom objects rather than newly manufactured décor. This approach creates tables that feel distinctive while also reflecting a more considered way of gathering. Each table includes small story cards that share the history or origins of selected pieces, inviting guests to notice the objects on the table and the traditions of hospitality they embody.
Design for the Table You Already Own
Even the simplest table can become something memorable with thoughtful composition.Tableaux & Co. can design a complete tablescape using the dishes, glassware, and serving pieces you already own—arranging them with linens, florals, and carefully chosen details to create a cohesive and beautiful table.
About Tableaux & Co.
My work as a historian and in historic preservation has centered on the stories objects carry—how everyday items reflect tradition, place, and the lives of the people who used them. Over time, that perspective began to shape how I set my own table, bringing together pieces from different eras and traditions in ways that feel both grounded and alive.
At the heart of Tableaux & Co. is a simple philosophy: details matter, and connection matters. The small choices—layers of texture, the weight of a glass, the pattern on a plate—have the power to change how a gathering feels. Thoughtful details don’t just create a beautiful table; they invite people to slow down, to notice, and to engage more fully with one another.
Many of the pieces used in Tableaux tables are vintage or heirloom objects, chosen for their character and presence. These objects often become quiet conversation starters, connecting the people around the table not only to each other, but to the many gatherings that came before. In that way, each table holds a sense of continuity—linking past and present through shared experience.
Tableaux & Co. is built on the idea that a table can do more than look beautiful. It can shape the atmosphere of a gathering, highlight the care you’ve taken in bringing people together, and reflect the beauty of the relationships at its center.
